Meditation Beads
Meditation is a time of expansion. When you are ready to allow the noisy world to fade into the background, this is a very good time to pick up your beads and fill your mind with positive thoughts. When entering a state of meditation, one can awaken innate goodness, kindness, serenity, all virtue, joy, and a peaceful heart.
A Brief History:
Meditation beads were originally devised to help people to keep track of repetitive devotions. They enabled one to pray while doing routine jobs or between activities. In the very earliest times, prayers were marked by dropping little pebbles one by one on the ground.
The stringing of beads for devotional purposes originated in India as the Hindu mala ( meaning rose, or galand) around the 8th century BCE. 108 identical beads helped the user to focus while chanting mantras, the sacred symbol of power in their spiritual practices. Buddhist monks and nuns adapted the mala for their own meditations and as the newer religions of Christianity and Islam came into contact with Buddhism the mala was once again “borrowed” and modified to fit their symbolisms.
The word bead is derived from Anglo-Saxon bidden (“to pray”) and bede (“prayer”). During the medieval period, when jewelry was discouraged by the Church, rosaries were the exception: to be used as convenient portable devices for counting prayers.
Here are a few ways you can use your beads for your own present-moment practice:
Beginning A New Day:
Each morning when you wake up, reach for your beads. Let the texture awaken your fingers and allow this vitality to permeate your entire body. Now you are ready to set your intentions for the day. These can include anything you would like to emphasize such as listening to people more carefully, telling the truth, being grateful for small things, etc. As you make your way through your day, touching the beads will remind you of your initial intentions.
Walking In The Present Moment: As you move from place to place during the day, use these moments to acknowledge the transition between tasks. Bring your beads into the palm of your hand, and let their texture remind you to feel your feet on the ground. Take a breath, feel both the inhalation and exhalation. Be creative in ways to make your beads accessible: you might have your beads tucked away in your pocket, or you might wear a strand around your neck or wrist. Grounding Practice: During important conversations or even thinking about things in solitude, we can find ourselves getting caught up in the “what was” and the “what if.” Use your beads for grounding when you find yourself worrying about the past, or the future. When things get difficult, hold your beads and let their pleasing weight bring you back into the present moment. You will then be able to see more clearly into the current situation. By remaining grounded in the present, you will be more open to listening and accepting life as it is, rather than as you wish it to be. Calming Your Emotions: Emotions can flare-up regarding a work situation, an incident with your friends or family, or pretty much anything. When this occurs, take out your beads and feel their smooth textures. Consider their pleasing weight, observe their unique colors, and absorb their beauty and eternal patience. Not only is this quite calming but it also allows you to see the situation much more rationally and to come up with a peaceful solution…Try it! Ending The Day: When you’re in bed and ready for sleep, pick up your beads and let their texture resonate within your body. As you rediscover each bead passing through your fingers, allow yourself to feel grateful for your day. It’s also important to recognize the pain we might have caused or experienced. By acknowledging the truth of who we are, we can change and grow. As you approach sleep, breathe in and out with an awareness of your body. As you breathe in, focus on your toes, and on the exhalation, relax them. Continue this breathing exercise while moving up your entire body until you reach to the top of your head. (It’s perfectly okay to fall asleep while you are moving up the entire length of your body!)
Sharing With Another: In addition to helping keep one’s place in structured affirmations, the circular shape of meditation beads celebrates our interconnectedness to each other and the universe. Perhaps there is someone you know who might benefit from Meditation Beads. Gifting Meditation Beads is an action of thoughtful kindness – it shows you care. Care & Maintenance: Each set of meditation beads have their own unique energy and vibration determined by the crystal beads used in their construction. Their vibration can be further enhanced by infusing them with corresponding essential oils or sound. Here’s some ways to cleanse your gemstone of accumulated “energy dirt” which hangs around until it’s cleared away: · Most crystals can be cleansed by running cold water over them. It’s the gentlest way of cleaning them, yet avoid this way with softer crystals, such as Selenite, Malachite and Celestine, even Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise, as they can become damaged. · Sound: Place your beads in a singing bowl while playing it or ring a bell over them. · Smudging: Purifying incenses include sandalwood, frankincense, cedar, sage, bay leaves. · Dried Herb Bed: let the beads rest in a saucer of dried herbs. Sage, thyme, rosemary and lavender are excellent cleansers. · NOTE: do NOT use salt to clear your beads, as this can be quite corrosive to some crystals. Once cleansed, it’s time to re-charge your beads. Except for Citrine and Kyanite which never need recharging (but they still do love a good cleansing!), all other crystals love being pampered with a boost of recharged energy. There are a few ways to do this: · Place your beads on a Selenite pad, or surround them with Quartz points, for about 6 hours. · Let your beads bathe up sunlight, place them in a safe place outside during daylight or in a window that gets plenty of sunlight. · Transparent or translucent crystals are best charged under moonlight. In fact, this is my favorite way of re-charging all crystals, under the light of a waxing or full moon. Charge the following crystals under moonlight only: Aventurine, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Fluorite, Kunzite,
Moonstone, Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz. Once your beads are fully charged and ready to wear, set a general intention until you’re ready to set specific ones to be used during your meditations. Here’s one that I like to use: “I share loving energies” May your beads bring you peace.

Beautiful works of art:
Labradorite waits as the brilliant, flashing light, lighting up the path of intuition, and emanating a healing energy which pierces the veil and invites us to continue our journey, now whole and illuminated. Both necklaces remind us that there is a bright and shining light waiting for us at the end of the darkened tunnel: the gemstones offer their support and guidance in this journey.
A Labradorite pendant, wrapped in silver wire, hanging from a 20 inch necklace of Rainbow Obsidian beads. Next we have Phillip Silver our intuitive artist. This is one of his favoured pieces:
Each item has a deep meaning for the receiver of the reading. I for one love this drawing. I can see the subjects own intuitive and healing abilities and a love of meditation. Their intuitive third eye connections reach out to the highest good of the universe while their flaming hands tell me this person is a Reiki practitioner. They have a love of nature and crystals as well as home life. It is truly an intuitive drawing that clearly shows the subjects abilities and interests.
